Stella Im Hultberg
Showcase Exhibition
Outré Gallery Fitzroy
15 May - 7 June 2026
Stella Im Hultberg was born in South Korea, raised in Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei, and later in California.
She studied Industrial Design at CSU and worked as a product designer before serendipitously falling into the art world in late 2005.
Work in the design industry led to her building on her natural talents as an artist and a career as a self-taught painter soon followed. Having grown up in various cultures, she has a diverse blend of cultural influences and personal experiences to pull from. Stella Im Hultberg’s paintings are conceived in varying mediums, recently exploring traditional Korean materials such as Jagae, or Korean abalone and mother-of-pearl shells, as well as traditional pigments. Many of her paintings and sculptures are reflective of her introspection and observation as an outsider, and of identities and relationships.
For this collection of paintings in Convergence, she explores different ways of connections - how we connect to others, the world, and even different sides within ourselves.
