Loretta Lizzio is an Australian artist based in Far North Queensland whose practice explores romanticism, nostalgia, and the enduring poetry of the natural world. Working across studio painting and large-scale works, Lizzio creates emotionally resonant imagery that blurs the line between memory and imagination. Each work evokes a sense of longing, an intimate atmosphere, where softness and strength coexist.

Lizzio’s practice is underpinned by a nuanced exploration of femininity. Each piece unfolds as a suspended moment, inviting viewers into a space that shifts between dream and lived experience. Committed to continual experimentation and refinement, she expands her visual language while preserving the emotional depth and sensitivity that define her work.

Artist statement:

Naiades is a new body of work by Loretta Lizzio exploring femininity, desire, and self-discovery through figure, form, and colour. After seven years focused on large-scale murals, Lizzio returns to smaller works with a renewed sense of flow and intimacy. Drawing on life on her family farm and a deep connection to the natural world, these paintings transform personal reflection into moments of tenderness, release, and introspection. Rich in texture and layered colour, Naiades balances strength and vulnerability, capturing the fire, complexity, and quiet joys of womanhood.
