Shoko Ishida, a.k.a. YODAKA is a Japanese illustrator and artist based in Michigan, with BFA in Illustration from College for Creative Studies. She’s mostly known for her delicate portraits with eye-catching shapes and uses negative spaces to give a feeling of the unusual. Inspired by music, fashion, nature, the nostalgia and her daydreams, the illustrative storyteller creates her mixed media works for stories and galleries. Some of her clients include Penguin Random House, Erewhon Books, and Harper Collins, and have shown works in galleries around the world.

Artist's Statement

Through repetition, merging shapes, flowing lines, and colors that breathe, the simple form of a flower reveals countless expressions. Surfaces drift between matte and gloss, each chosen to shape a distinct voice. Together, they gather like a bouquet of stories.
