Note from the artist on this work:
In Japanese folklore, the Seven Lucky Gods are associated with good fortune, prosperity, happiness and longevity. They are often depicted sailing together aboard the Takarabune, a treasure ship believed to carry prosperity and good luck.
Here, they are reimagined as animals welcoming spring and sharing treasures and blessings. Three playful frogs join the voyage, adding humour and the joy of the season.
