Note from the artist on this work:

A grand procession of magical creatures winds through the city towards a glowing portal. A white dragon, a nine-tailed fox, a thunder god and a cloud-making beast are among those heading into a world of untouched nature, ready to celebrate the arrival of spring beneath the moon.

Look closely at the fox in red samurai armour: he holds a tiny traveller whose clothing hints at a different homeland. While journeying between worlds, this little explorer discovered a beautiful place untouched by civilisation. Now, he is guiding the group to this hidden sanctuary to celebrate spring, and they have all promised to keep its location secret.

The world glimpsed through the portal is the setting of another painting in this collection, 'The Hidden Sanctuary of Spring.'
