Greg Mount is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
Greg's paintings occupy a rich intersection of 20th-century nostalgia, urban grit, and striking visual intensity. Through bold hues and carefully composed scenes of an America filtered through the lens of the TV generation, he summons a world that feels both relevant and tenderly remembered. Whether capturing desert highways, pickups, or discarded everyday heroes, he invites us to see beauty in the overlooked and the worn.
Artist statement:
Where A Lonesome Road ends, Other Desert Roads begin.
Following on from last year’s exhibition, A Lonesome Road, this new body of work continues to explore moments of pause and contemplation, characters caught somewhere between where they have been and wherever they might be going. Perhaps they have a destination. Perhaps they wander.
There are stories within each of these paintings, just as there are stories within the moments that make up our own lives, some significant, some fleeting, some seemingly ordinary, some special to be cherished.
I invite you to look into these scenes and imagine where these characters have come from, where their paths might lead, and what happens beyond the edge of the painting. In doing so, perhaps they offer us a moment to consider our own journeys: where we are going, what we are searching for, and which road we choose to take.
Or maybe they’re just another bunch of cool truck paintings.
You get to decide.
