Artist statement:

This painting was inspired partly by surrealist nocturnes, such as those of Paul Delvaux. I am exploring the hypnagogic state: the period of partial consciousness during the descent into sleep where the associative dream world bleeds into the physical. I find this evocative of touching the surface of the subconscious.
