SHAG'S INSCRUTABLE MYSTERY GUIDE

Outré has been working with Josh Agle aka Shag for over 10 years now, and his return in 2010 is particularly exciting because of his marked shift in style and mood.

The Inscrutable Mystery Guide is an exhibition featuring Shag at most surreal presenting more complex compositions and out-of-character narratives.

Shag takes an artistic sidestep away from the retro iconography and lifestyle that has marked his career, with a whole new realm of crisply rendered dream-scenes, perfectly balanced hues and amazing narratives.  Plus an epic collection of 99 smaller original paintings - all featuring individual tiki characters.

These new style works will sit next to a collection of older prints and rare editions from the past.

The name of the exhibition refers to an exclusive (and mysterious) book that the artist has produced to accompany the paintings.

"Inscrutable Mystery Guide" is actually the little book that accompanies each small tiki painting.  It's my hope that the books won't be seen by anyone except the person who owns one of those paintings. I want to bring them into my own little cult and tell them some secrets. - Josh Agle aka Shag

Outré will be hosting a series of gala openings across the three cities with the artist out from Los Angeles for the events.

DICKIE BIRD PRINT

And for this tour, we are releasing a brand new exclusive serigraph, Dickie Bird.  This work was originally from Shag's last Australian exhibition, and is a tribute to Australian architect and legend Robin Boyd.  Shag features Boyd's much loved Walsh Street house in South Yarra.  Check out more about the house here.

We are not as yet taking pre-orders, but if you would like to join a waiting list for this print to be alerted when the print goes on sale, please contact us here.
MID-CENTURY SOIREE WITH SHAG

After a couple of wonderful parties up at Rose Seider House in NSW, we have been wanting to host a nice event with mid-century stylings in Melbourne.  So here it is!

As part of Shag's visit to Melbourne, we will be hosting a party and house-tour at the famous Robin Boyd Walsh Street House in South Yarra.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet with the artist, celebrate a piece of modern architectural glory amongst other keen fans, artists, designers and Shag himself.

While this will not strictly be a "cocktail party" we will be serving light refreshments from Peter Rowland and encourage party goers to dress to impress.

This will be a ticketed event with extremely limited places at approximately $100 per head.  Tickets will not go on sale for another week or so, but if you would like to go on the waiting list to purchase pre-sale please express your interest here.  Big thank you to the Robin Boyd Foundation.

ATOMIC RANCH 26

Atomic Ranch is our favourite glossy about mid-century homes and interior design with a modernist bent.  Even the ads are interesting.  We've had a run of trouble stocking this title, but we're stoked to tell you we have plenty of copies of issue number 26 now in store.  AU$15.

As the artists explain themselves: "Set in a bustling kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi restaurant, no one knows just what makes this particular joint's sushi so delicious, all they know is they can't get enough. Everyone in town is raving about it. If ONLY they knew what the secret ingredient really was, and who was really serving it to them!"

We also have a couple of the super-sized giclee editions which are twice the size at two metres wide for AU$1500 framed.
