Australian Nathan Jurevicius is the world-renowned artist, illustrator, toy designer and storyteller, who created the cult of Scarygirl; the cute but slightly deformed little girl who was abandoned late one night and is later found and brought up by a friendly octopus and guided by a mystic rabbit (Bunniguru). Her quest to find her origins is full of amazing encounters and fantastic characters.
The world of Scarygirl is a vision that is full of psychedelic colours, dream-like compositions and heartfelt stories that recall fables and folklore from our shared cultural memory.
And while his works appeal to kids, this isn't kid's stuff. Nathan's designer vinyl figures and original artworks are prized collectables with art fans and pop culture buffs alike.
Since his first solo exhibition here at Outre in 2004 Nathan has become one of the most in-demand talents on the block, with exhibitions planned across Asia and the US and a project to take an animated version of Scarygirl to the silverscreen in the works. His collaborative projects with big deal companies like StrangeCo, Superdrug, ABC TV, Comedy Central US are too many to mention.
Nathan's work is featured in the book Vinyl Will Kill and a catalog of his toys and art was published by Outre Gallery in 2004.
